Invention :

The process for in vitro culture Streptomycetes KB3 to increase productivity of secondary metabolites act as antibiotic active substance

Background and Importance :

Antibiotic active substances produced by Streptomycetes (Streptomyces) are groups of secondary metabolites that can inhibit the growth of other microorganisms. The research teams has isolated the bacteria from air, Streptomyces KB1 and Streptomyces KB3, to cultivate for increasing the antibiotic active substance in the suitable equipment sets for those of bacterium groups. The result showed that high quantity of productivity of antibiotic active substances have been produced. This products can destroy the pus forming bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Interestingly, Streptomyces KB3 can produce the brownish-orange pigment diffuse thoroughly into the agar medium around the colonies during the growing phase.

Technology :

The process for increasing the productivity of antibiotic active substances by culturing the Streptomyces KB3 in baffled flask containing glass beads and incubated by shaking incubator. The shaking technique with glassbead can increase the rate of dissolve oxygen into the media. Resulting in accelerating the growth rate of the culture and the productivity of antibiotic active substances was induced in high yield.

Advantages / Pros :

1. It was increased the production of secondary metabolite act as antibiotic active substances.
2. It was accelerated the growth rate of Streptomyces spp.
3. it was induced production of orange / red brown pigment from Streptomyces KB3. The pigment is a group of melanin, polyphenols, which can act against the pathogenic bacteria.
