Invention :

Campy Subsurface Motility Test

Background and Importance :

Thermotolerant Campylobacter spp, those species that grow at 42 °C, C. jejuni and C. coli, are most frequently isolated from diarrhoeal patients. Poultry has been recognized as the primary reservoir of Campylobacter and play an important role in the transmission of Campylobacter enteritis to humans. Culture is a highly specific method for identifying Campylobacter infection and allows characterization of antimicrobial sensitivities. However, conventional cultural methods are complex and require a special atmosphere-generating system. This method takes up to 5 days in total to obtain a result.

Technology :

The aim of the present investigation was to develop a dual system, Campylobacter subsurface motility test, for culturing and simultaneously identify Campylobacter under aerobic conditions at 42°C. Positive results were determined by subsurface zone of motility for a matrix fluid with high viscosity. The medium turns from green to light blue in response to Campylobacter metabolic reduction after 24 h.

Advantages / Pros :

1. East and convenient to use.
2. Reduce the import of equipment from foreign countries
3. Standardized be equal to in the laboratory
